Albert Shih, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Deputy Director, SM Wu Manufacturing Research Center, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.  After receiving his PhD from Purdue University in 1991, Dr. Shih worked at Cummins Inc. at Columbus, Indiana.  He developed precision, cost-effective machining technology for the advanced engineering materials in diesel engines and fuel systems.  From 1998 to 2002, he was Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University at Raleigh, North Carolina.  Dr. Shih's research and teaching interests are in biomedical design and manufacturing, machining of advanced materials, non-contact optical metrology, precision machine design, and nanofluids.  Professor Shih is the recipient of the 1999 ASME BOSS Award, 2000 NSF CAREER Award and 2004 SAE Ralph Teetor Education Award.  He was the associate editor of ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering is currently a guest editor of Journal of Manufacturing Science, associate editor of Engineering, International Journal for Manufacturing Science and Production, and International Journal of Nanomanufacturing and the review committee member of International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture.  He has 5 US patents and over 150 publications, including over 80 journal papers.
