General Overview

The research focuses on the emerging global trend toward the miniaturization of manufacturing equipment and systems for microscale components and products. Fundamental science on miniaturization effects are investigated and applied to manufacturing of micro-systems. The goal is to develop manufacturing processes that can bridge the gap between nano and macro.

Research Focus

  • Micromachining (micro-milling, micro-drilling, micro-grinding) 
  • Microforming (deep drawing, bulk forming) 
  • Micro- semisolid forming 
  • Manufacturing of porous structure for advanced heat transfer applications  
  • Meso-scale machine tool (mMT) system 
  • Manufacturing of miniature systems (micro-reactor, swing engine)
